Developer preview guide — Steel AI← Steel AIDeveloper access preview
Join the waiting list, verify your email, and sign in again. Select Create / rotate test key. Copy the key immediately: it is shown once. Keys expire after seven days and are limited to 100 status requests per day. Rotating a key revokes the previous key; you can also revoke it from your account.
Test your connection
curl https://steelai.dev/api/v1/status \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $STEEL_TEST_KEY"
The current key scope is sandbox:status. This confirms authenticated API connectivity. Hosted workflow execution, capability acquisition, and shared memory are not enabled in this access preview. A successful status request does not claim your LLM or workflow executed.
Bring your own local model
Run your model in your own environment using a runtime such as Ollama or llama.cpp. Your application must make the local model call. The hosted Steel API cannot reach your machine’s localhost. Do not send model-provider keys in forms or embed your Steel test key in a public website.
The planned local connector will exchange explicit workflow requests and model responses with the hosted API. That runtime integration is still being validated; the website does not pretend it is available.
Enterprise and private servers
Use the enterprise form to discuss private deployment, data boundaries, integrations, and requirements. Deployment availability and capabilities will be confirmed for your environment.
